Identify the document and its destination
An education certificate, marriage certificate and corporate document may need different treatment. Record the issuing country and the authority that will receive the document. The purpose matters: an employer, licensing authority and immigration service can ask for different evidence.
Confirm the accepted route
Ask the receiving authority what language and attestation evidence it accepts. MoFA provides attestation services, with the applicable route depending on the document and issuing circumstances. Do not assume that a scan or simple photocopy can replace an original.
Before translation or delivery
Confirm whether a certified translation is needed and whether the translation must be completed before or after a particular authentication step. Ask who may handle the original, how it will be transported and when it is to be returned.
